ADHD Evaluation & Treatment
OUR APPROACH
Strengths-based ADHD care for adolescents and adults.
ADHD care is one of the defining specialties at BAM Psych — a strengths-based perspective rooted in our founding clinicians' shared experience working together at the Hallowell Todaro ADHD Center, a foundation that continues to shape how we approach care across the practice.
Many people with ADHD have brilliant insights and creativity, try exceedingly hard, and care deeply about what matters to them — yet still struggle with consistency in ways that can feel confusing, even to themselves. The same effort and the same circumstances can produce very different results from one day to the next. Over time, that unpredictability can erode self-trust, making it hard to plan ahead or know how they'll show up for themselves and others.
Effective treatment can help people begin to feel steady and reliable from one day to the next in how motivated, engaged, focused, regulated, and resilient they are. This reliability restores self-trust, improves relationships, and allows them to begin planning for the future and building a life intentionally, day by day, in line with their values and what matters most to them.
ADHD EVALUATIONS
Comprehensive ADHD assessments, grounded in clinical expertise.
An ADHD evaluation at BAM Psych is conducted by clinicians who specialize in ADHD and takes a comprehensive view of the patient's history, symptoms, and functioning. The process is thorough, and not every evaluation ends in a diagnosis.
Evaluating ADHD also means looking broadly at other contributing factors — including anxiety, mood difficulties, sleep disturbances, trauma, and medical conditions, among others — alongside ADHD symptoms themselves. Considering the full picture helps ensure an accurate formulation and treatment recommendations that are properly targeted.
Step 1: Before the Appointment
Patients and/or their parents/guardians complete a comprehensive series of assessments covering health history and symptoms. We also ask for input from someone who knows you well — such as a parent, relative, partner, friend, teacher, or colleague — who can speak to how symptoms appear to others.
Step 2: Comprehensive Evaluation
The evaluation takes place across two visits with one of our ADHD-specialist clinicians, ensuring a thorough assessment before determining diagnosis and next steps for treatment planning.
Step 3: Care Plan and Next Steps
By the end of the evaluation, you'll walk away with a clear understanding of the diagnosis, if applicable, and a recommended path forward — which may include treatment recommendations, a referral if appropriate, or next steps for ongoing care.
ADHD TREATMENT
Meeting you where you are. Moving toward where you want to be.
Treatment draws on a multidisciplinary team — psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists working together — and may involve medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of both, depending on your history, challenges, and goals.
Medication Management
For many people, medication plays an essential role in improving symptoms and day-to-day functioning — supporting steadier attention, motivation, and emotional regulation. Prescribing follows careful assessment and shared decision making, with an emphasis on making sure you understand the reasoning behind any recommendation. Ongoing follow-up ensures both safety and efficacy are upheld throughout care.
Psychotherapy
Therapy builds the self-understanding and emotional groundwork that support durable improvements in executive functioning, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and relationships — while helping navigate the real-world challenges that often accompany ADHD. Our psychologists and therapists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, adapting collaboratively to what works best for each person. Part of this work is holding a vision of what's possible — and helping each person come to see it, believe in it, and move toward it, one step at a time.
